On Sunday, September 15, the ADL (Anti-Defamation League) will host its inaugural Walk Against Hate at Victory Plaza, bringing together the entire DFW community to promote diversity and celebrate the values of respect and inclusion. The event is a two-mile walk that will feature main stage entertainment, a Corporate Village for sponsor marketing opportunities, and a Diversity Expo featuring local non-profit organizations sharing the work they do to serve the community.
“The Walk Against Hate is an opportunity for the Dallas community to take a step in the right direction, to show unification and embrace diversity,” said ADL Texoma Regional Director Cheryl Drazin. “You can become involved by joining teams, by walking, or by volunteering. We welcome everyone to be with us at Victory Plaza on September 15th.”
Net proceeds from the event will enhance and expand ADL’s efforts to fight hate for good through anti-hate and anti-bullying programs in schools, civil rights advocacy work, extremism training for law enforcement, and incident response and community support for the region.
In conjunction with the Walk Against Hate, the Dallas Morning News co-sponsored an essay contest for high school students, grades 9-12. In 500 words or less, writers were asked to respond to the prompt: “What I can do to take a step in the right direction to fight hate.” There is a $1,000 prize for the winner as well as the possibility of being published in the newspaper. The winner of the ADL Walk Against Hate Essay Contest will be notified on or before September 10, 2019.
“We invite the community to join us at Victory Plaza, form teams, and bring friends to walk side by side and show our city that bias, bigotry and hate have no place here.” said Wendy Stanley, event co-chair. Susie Carp, event co-chair, recognizes the need to foster a broader community dialogue about prejudice and injustice, ” We look forward to walking with participants who represent the diversity that makes Dallas great. The Walk is a fun and inspiring opportunity to build a more welcoming and respectful world.”
