Transforming Your Bathroom: When it Comes to Shower Doors, Less is More

By Alicia Wanek

Decluttering, simplifying, and prioritizing have become buzzwords that have echoed in the COVID era.  Our efforts to “Marie Kondo” drawers, clean out closets with all the extra time at home, or eliminate the clutter so it does not appear in the background of a Zoom call, have inspired many of us to focus on making our homes a more open and relaxing place to be.  The idea “less is more,” a design concept that first began at the turn of the 21st century by German Mies van der Rohe, has certainly made a resurgence.

That focus on open design and less cluttered spaces has extended to every room, even our bathrooms. After all, we do spend a lot of time there.  Over the course of a lifetime, we will spend an average of 416 24-hour days in our bathrooms (373 for men, 456 for women).  About 92 of those days are spent doing what obviously is done in, as the Brits say, the ‘water closet.’  The other 324 days, or 7,776 hours, are spent preparing ourselves to face the day or recovering at the end of one.  We want it to be a relaxing, welcoming place for all that time we’ll be there.

One way to easily open up the space in the bathroom is with frameless shower doors.

Whether you are contemplating a full renovation or just looking to make a big impact in your existing space without ripping everything out, frameless showers can make a huge impact on the aesthetics of the room.

These modern shower doors can influence the design using architectural glass surrounding the shower without the distraction of frames at every juncture.

“Some people don’t know how much better it can be until they see it,” says Mark Taylor, Regional Manager of Mr. Showers.  “It completely changes the dynamic of the bathroom.” These fully customizable and corrosive-free shower surrounds are also easier to clean and “pretty much unbreakable.”  The overall effect will remind you of a spa with its bright, sleek, and more modern feel.  You might imagine the style of the bathroom from your last hotel stay, as most of the higher-end chains are moving to frameless showers.

When you are ready to transition your bathroom to a home spa, the team at Mr. Showers is ready to help. Once someone from the team has consulted with you to discuss your options and get the measurements for your space, it only takes 7 to 10 days for the custom-made, tempered glass to be produced and then a few short hours to install.  With over 20 years of experience, Taylor can answer any questions clients have. Another bonus is that once installed, the new shower doors should improve your home value.

Leonardo da Vinci once said, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”  He was most certainly not referencing bathroom renovation at the time, but the simplicity of frameless shower doors can actually add sophistication to a space we spend time in every day.
