26 GoodLifeFamilyMag.com MARCH | APRIL 2019 A ccording to the World Health Organization mosquitos are one of the deadliest animals in the world. “The mosquito is a vector of disease, which means it does not suffer the disease or create the disease, just carries it from one host to the other,” said Mark Kellner, owner of Texas Mosquito Control, who has dedicated his professional career to preventing the spread of diseases including Zika virus, West Nile virus, Chikungunya virus, Dengue, and malaria. The mosquito problem has been around for ages. “According to the Centers for Disease Control, in Texas since 2002, there have been 5,412 cases of West Nile and 284 deaths in humans,” said Kellner. Averaging 18 deaths per year in Texas, the problem does not seem to be subsiding in the near future. Mosquito prevention is key to keeping your family healthy.
