At the heart of the Junior League of Collin County (JLCC) is volunteerism.  Since its inception 41 years ago, JLCC has contributed over 750,000 volunteer hours to nonprofits serving Collin County. To celebrate and encourage volunteerism throughout the Collin County region, JLCC hosts the annual Excellence in Volunteer Service Awards to honor local volunteers who are changing our community for good.   Held at Piazza on the Green in McKinney, community leaders served as award presenters and Dr. Cheryl“Action”Jackson of Minnie’s Food Pantry was the keynote speaker.  A common theme was heard among the nomi- nees’stories that together, volunteers and nonprofits change lives.  jlcollincounty.org Photo Credit: Susan Bellson Photography NorthTexas Performing Arts earned theYouth Organization of theYear Award DALLAS WOMEN’S FOUNDATION LEADERSHIP FORUM & AWARDS DINNER DallasWomen’s Foundation held its Leadership Forum & Awards Dinner, presented by AT&T, at the Omni Dallas Hotel.The dinner was co-chaired by community and business leaders, Effie Dennison and Jan Sharry. Brenda L. Jackson, award selection committee co-chair and Maura winner, talked about the Maura Award.“The award was established in 1978 to recognize those who have made extraordinary contributions to the success and well-being of women and girls in the North Texas region.” This year’s award recipients were Arcilia Acosta, Dr. Jocelyn Kidd, Cynthia Mickens Ross and GailTurner. Recipients of the Young Leader Award were Dr. Vanessa Bouché and Brooke Lopez. Dallas Women’s Foundation is the largest regional women’s fund in the world. It is a trusted leader in advancing positive social and economic change for women and girls.
