Before the finalists addressed the crowd, WFAA News 8 Anchor and Women LEAD Emcee Kara Sewell encouraged them about the many incredible opportunities to come. The students spoke of hardships they have faced, obstacles they have overcome, and their biggest dreams after college, leaving the audience with tears in their eyes. The judges determined the winners and awarded a total of $40,000 in scholarship funds to all ten students based on their scholarship application and speech presentation. The event was chaired by Doran and Bethann Roberts. Special guests included Jake Brendel, Miami Dolphins Center #64 and Mayor Jeff Cheney and Mrs. Dana Cheney. Fox 4 sports anchor Mike Doocy and LFZ ambassador, Camden Thrailkill were the evening’s emcee.
