About TubaChristmas

TubaChristmas was conceived in 1974 by the late Harvey Phillips as a tribute to his teacher and mentor William J. Bell, born on Christmas Day, 1902. Bell is recognized by all musicians as one of the most preeminent tuba players throughout the world. The Allen Philharmonic concert is presented in conjunction with the Harvey Phillips Foundation. The first TubaChristmas was conducted by Paul Lavalle in New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink on Sunday, Dec. 22, 1974. Through TubaChristmas, musicians reflect on their heritage and honor all the great artists and teachers whose legacy has given the world high-performance standards, well-structured pedagogy, professional integrity, personal values, and a camaraderie envied by all other instrumentalists.
