Calling all Musicians to join Make Music Day at Watters Creek

By Alicia Wanek

Last year, over 1,000 cities in 120 countries around the world threw citywide music celebration on June 21, the Summer Solstice. It all started in 1982 in France when a dream for a new kind of music holiday was born. Unlike a typical music festival, this concept offers the public a completely free celebration of music for this annual Fete de la Musique translated as ‘Festival of Music’ or simply ‘Make Music!’

“We are looking forward to a triumphant return of live, in-person music making in 2021… it’s so important for people to reconnect and express their creativity after such a long and isolating year.”
Aaron Friedman, President, Make Music Alliance, Inc

Make Music Day is part of the Make Music Alliance, Inc which was founded in 2014 by Aaron Friedman, who serves as the nonprofit’s President and Executive Director.

“Back in 2006, I had the pleasure of visiting Paris during the Fête de la Musique, a nationwide celebration on June 21 where people pour onto the streets and make music together. I thought it was so magical that I was determined to start something like it in my hometown of New York City,” Friedman said, noting how the movement has flourished throughout the years into cities across the country.

Locally, at Watters Creek, in the heart of Allen, Make Music Day is open to anyone who wants to take part – amateurs and professionals alike. It has grown to become one of the most successful events among all the participating Texas cities.
