380 Plano Teens Head to Job Fair Competing for Coveted Positions Offered Through Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program

Dressed in their professional best, 380 enthusiastic but nervous Plano teens will head to a real-world Job Fair on Friday, April 26, as part of the Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program. The rising juniors and seniors will shake hands and interview with some of the area’s top businesses and nonprofits seeking to fill 120 paid internship spots. Approximately 50 employers will conduct more than 900 interviews during the Job Fair, which will take place at the Plano Event Center.

Mayor LaRosiliere will be there from 2:15-3:15 p.m. thanking the employers and offering sage advice to the anxious students.

Job Fair sponsor JPMorgan Chase will underwrite 20 internships in the technology, health and nonprofit sectors in addition to hiring nine students to intern at their 1 million square-foot regional headquarters campus.

To prepare for the Job Fair, the students underwent intense job-seeking training including resume development and writing, mock interviewing and professional etiquette, while learning about self-branding, behavioral interviewing and how to develop a professional persona.

Prior to the Job Fair, 26 Plano ISD teachers will be interviewing for PMSIP teacher “externships” along with a variety of other learning experiences offered by Toyota Motor North America and JPMorgan Chase.  The two-week externships are being offered at Capital One, Children’s Health, Baylor Scott & White, Ericsson, Learning Forward, My Possibilities, NTT Data Services and City of Plano. The Plano ISD Teacher Externship Program is powered by Capital One.

An invaluable “earn and learn” experience, the Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program gives outstanding Plano high school students an opportunity to gain powerful experience through employment in a professional workplace. In its sixth year, the program combines Plano’s vibrant business community with a nationally recognized school district, connecting motivated high school students with exceptional local companies and organizations.
