With the start of a new year, it’s a great time for busy couples to rekindle the romance. Fortunately, there are a plethora of fun DARTable date night activities in North Texas. Take DART to spend more time enjoying your partner and less time driving and parking.
Here are our suggestions:
The Dallas Black Dance Theatre is the city’s largest dance company and one of North Texas’ cultural treasures. From Feb. 15-17, check out Cultural Awareness, which pays homage both to Odetta Holmes (the “Queen of American Folk Music”) and the incomparable Nina Simone. The Wyly Theatre is right in the Dallas Arts District, a short walk from Pearl/Arts District Station. dbdt.com
Looking for a more casual experience? Bowling is a fun date, and Plano Super Bowl is right next to Parker Road Station. With food and drinks, it is a one-stop shop for a low-key date. Or you could start with dinner in Downtown Plano – one stop away on the Red Line. Score Valentine’s points by hitting Dude, Sweet Chocolate while you’re there. planosuperbowl.com
Laughter is the key to the heart, and My Funny Valentine at the Eisemann Center is tailor-made for this day. Running Feb. 14-16, the show features the standup duo of Pat Hazell and Dena Blizzard riffing on relationships and dating. There’s even a Q&A where you can ask relationship advice. The evening awaits just steps from Galatyn Park Station. eisemanncenter.com
Talk about having it all in one place – the Toyota Music Factory has concerts, restaurants and movies all in about a 2/10-of-a-mile stretch of West Las Colinas Blvd. in Irving. It’s a “choose your own adventure” romantic evening, with nearly 20 restaurants and bars ranging from Japanese to Salvadorian. You also have your choice of movies at the awesome Alamo Drafthouse. And there are performances scheduled throughout January and February. It’s all a stroll away from Irving Convention Center Station. toyotamusicfactory.com
A little further west – Fort Worth that is – you and your special someone can enjoy a Broadway show at the stunning Bass Performance Hall. Feb. 12-16, the Performing Arts Fort Worth will present Jersey Boys, a musical about the rise and fall of the 1960s rock ‘n’ roll group The Four Seasons. There are many other performances available throughout January and February. While in Fort Worth, enjoy the many shops, bars and restaurants in Sundance Square. Take the TRE west to T&P Station and it’s a short walk from there. basshall.com
You don’t have to glide across the ice like an Olympic medalist to enjoy ice skating. The Dr Pepper StarCenter offers public ice skating throughout the week. They also offer group pricing if you want to make it a couples’ night out! If you’ve never skated before, you can hang on to the outer wall or use props to maintain balance at select times during public skating sessions. The rink is near Farmers Branch Station. nhl.com/stars/starcenters
