Happy New You!

Resolve to Find your Best Self in 2018

by Erin O’Connell

It’s resolution-making season, but sometimes resolutions can become another item to add to the “to-do” list. And we get it: life is busy. Time for self-care might seem impossible, and getting in shape or doing something good for yourself seems out of the picture. But being busy shouldn’t mean you should have to forego the opportunity to take care of you.

U.S. News reported that “80% of New Year’s resolutions fail” by the second week of February. Instead of setting a resolution for a specific goal or item, consider resolving to find your “best self” throughout the year. From “mommy makeovers” to skin rejuvenation, orthodontic treatment and more, you’re sure to find an option that will lead you to your best self.

Hilary Clary, Director of Marketing at Regional Plastic Surgery Center, explains that many women experience significant changes to their physique after childbirth, but surgical procedures can help get them to their desired image.

“Often their clothing does not fit and their self-confidence is diminished,” says Clary. “A mommy makeover is a set of advanced plastic surgery procedures, usually a tummy tuck and a breast lift or augmentation, which can be combined to address the unique aesthetic concerns following pregnancy.”

If surgery is the route for you, it’s important to know your surgeon’s credentials. “Before choosing a surgeon, people should ask a doctor if he or she is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery,” advises Clary.

Surgery might not be the best option for everyone, which is where Kathryn I. Kennelly RN, MSN, FNPC, and owner of the Institute of Health Promotion (IHP) Weight Loss, provides other solutions.

Lisa, a patient with IHP Weight Loss, explains how she found success. “The secret to weight loss and maintenance is…do what the Nurse Practitioner tells you to do! IHP starts you out at your current level, and together you develop a plan that works for you.”
