Plano West Drumline Wins First Place

Plano West also received Outstanding Bass Section and Outstanding Cymbals Section

The Plano West Drumline placed first in their classification at the annual Lewisville Drumline Invitational, held Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Lewisville High School.  Additionally, the Plano West Drumline received caption awards for Outstanding Bass Drum Line as well as Outstanding Cymbal Line. Plano West competed against eight other schools in their division: Birdville, Denton, Frisco, Frisco Liberty, John Horn, Lake Dallas, Little Elm, and Rockwall.

“I couldn’t be more proud of this talented group of kids,” said Eric Petrinowitsch, Associate Band Director and Director of Percussion at Plano West. “The kids faced some tough competition this past weekend, and their hard work was evident in their outstanding performance. This was definitely their best run of the season and it was the perfect time to peak. I’ve watched some of these students rehearse outside of school hours almost every day for months, and I’m absolutely thrilled to see their hard work and resilience rewarded. This group has set the bar very high for all future Plano West Drumlines.”

Drumline leaders are Om Manickavelu – Tenor Section Leader; Dishan Abeysinghe – Front Ensemble Section Leader; Alex Maragakis – Snare Drum Section Leader; Ariana Mendez – Bass Drum Section Leader; and Eli Levy-Mackay – Cymbal Section Leader.

This is the second overall divisional win for Plano West this year at a Drumline Contest.  They previously placed first in their division at the Plano Drumline Competition (PDLC) this past September and received caption awards for Best Snare Line, Best Cymbal Line, Best Tenor Line and Best Front Ensemble.  This is the first time the Plano West Drumline has placed first in a drumline competition.
