Student Safety Information: What you should know about the Netflix series “13 Reasons Why”

Based on the popular novel of the same name, a new online series produced by Netflix called 13 Reasons Why dramatizes bullying, depression, sexual assault and suicide and is gaining popularity among young people across the country. The series is rated MA (mature audiences) and because of the mature nature of the content, we want to make parents aware of the widespread effect of the program on children and on the day-to-day conversations they are having with one another.

If your child is aware of this program, has watched it or is watching it, we encourage you to have an open dialogue with him/her regarding the subject matter. Should you need additional information visit https://www.jedfoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/13RW-Talking-Points-JED-SAVE-Netflix.pdf.

If you need individual assistance, contact your child’s school counselor.
