Families with Children Battling Cancer Benefit from Sales of Goodnight Burger
What happens when you mix a delicious hamburger with a fantastic nonprofit? You sell 90,000 burgers and are able to give $90,000 to a local charity. Hopdoddy Burger Bar partnered with Heroes for Children in 2014, as part of their Goodnight for a Good Cause Program, where $1 from every Goodnight burger sold was donated to Heroes for Children. In 2016, Heroes for Children received $90,000 from this partnership, enabling the nonprofit to help 120 DFW area families who have children diagnosed with cancer.
The Goodnight/Good Cause Burger is made of Angus beef, Tillamook cheddar, caramelized onions, jalapenos, hickory barbecue sauce, “Sassy Sauce,” red leaf lettuce and beefsteak tomato. The burger sold for $8.25, with a dollar donated from each purchase from the three Dallas-area Hopdoddy locations – 3227 McKinney Ave., Suite 102, Dallas; 6030 Luther Lane, Suite 100, Preston Center, Dallas; and 5100 Belt Line Road, Suite 502, Addison.
“Hopdoddy is the definition of a true hero for so many children,” commented Larissa Linton, co-founder and executive director of Heroes for Children. “Hopdoddy understands social change – not just from the corporate level but down to every single employee. The magnitude of their donation to Heroes for Children will continue to have ripple effects for years to come. When a child has cancer, it affects the entire family. Hopdoddy has made a difference in hundreds of Texans’ lives. Our gratitude is beyond measure.”
“At Hopdoddy, our goal is not only give a great experience to our customers in the restaurant, but also to give back to the community that surrounds it.” said co-founder, Guy Villavaso. “We are proud to work with organizations like Heroes for Children that generously donate their time to families in need.”
Every week, Heroes for Children distributes grants that average $750 directly to families with children battling cancer. Grants are awarded to help cover living expenses, including mortgage payments and utilities. Additionally, grants help cover the unexpected out-of-pocket costs that come with a cancer diagnosis, such as hospital parking fees, travel and much more. And sadly, some grants help with funeral expenses.
Heroes for Children relies on the time, talent and treasures of generous supporters like Hopdoddy Burger Bar to serve families with children battling cancer. With their support, Heroes for Children has raised more than $5.5 million for families in the past 10 years. To learn more about sponsorship opportunities, please visit www.heroesforchildren.org.
