New Friends New Life (NFNL) was born in 1998 when a women’s church group helped a woman who was an exotic dancer and was looking for a way to get out of that life. Over fifteen years later this organization now provides access to education, job training, interim financial assistance, mental health and spiritual support to formerly trafficked girls and sexually exploited women and their children.
While many have the perception that human trafficking is only an issue across the border or overseas, the reality is that domestic trafficking is a vast problem right here in North Texas. NFNL Executive Director, Katie Pedigo reports, “Texas ranks 2nd in the country for the most human trafficking and there are an estimated 400 trafficked teens on the street each night in Dallas.”
On April 10, 2015, NFNL will host their 12th Annual WINGS Luncheon with guest speaker, Kevin Costner. The well known actor’s appearance will coincide with the launch of NFNL’s Men’s Initiative which is intended to encourage more men to become involved in the trafficking cause.
In 2014, NFNL assisted more than 1100 women and their children and teens. Pedigo states, “NFNL is beyond grateful for the generous support of so many in the community throughout the year and at the annual WINGS luncheon, empowering girls, women and children to transform their lives.”
