Taylor Hooton Foundation’s All-Star Gala
Nearly $140,000.00 was raised at the Taylor Hooton Foundation’s second annual All-Star Gala at Eddie Deen’s Ranch in Dallas, Texas, the foundation announced today.
Proceeds from the event, held on April 23, will benefit the foundation’s mission to educate youth and their adult influencers about the dangers of Appearance and Performance Enhancement Drugs including anabolic steroids, Human Growth Hormone, unregulated dietary supplements and Energy Drinks.
A Scholarship Fund was created at the inaugural All-Star Gala in 2015 for Educational Institutions that need financial assistance to bring an educational program to their students. Given the overwhelming success of delivering programs to these schools through the support of the Scholarship Fund, the Foundation continued the appeal at the 2016 All-Star Gala. Through the generous support of the Texas Rangers’ Josh Hamilton, Brandon Knutson-Addison Pain Management, Maria and Stratton Nicolaides, Mike and Mary Terry and a “friend” of THF who pledged to match dollar for dollar up to the goal of $20,000.00 over $40,000.00 was raised for the foundation’s scholarship fund.
In 2016, the Foundation created the Legacy Award which recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the fight against Appearance and Performance Enhancement Drug use. The inaugural award was presented to former Major League Baseball Commissioner, Allan H. “Bud” Selig and the 2016 recipient was National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum President Jeff Idelson.
More than 300 guests at the Gala were treated to Eddie Deen’s famous Texas Barbecue dinner, open bar, Kendra Scott jewelry pull and exciting silent and live auction packages followed by a live musical performance featuring Lone Star Attitude. The gala’s honorary chair, actor Burton Gilliam who posed for pictures and autographs, was a hit with the crowd. NBC 5 Sports Reporter and Anchor David Watkins served as the evening’s Emcee.
The 2016 All-Star Gala Host Chairs were Apryl and James Iley, friends and supporters of the Taylor Hooton Foundation. Apryl and James said they “could not be more pleased with the success of the second annual THF All-Star Gala. The efforts of the THF staff, the gala committee, and event volunteers certainly paid off as evident by the fact that many of our guests said this was one of the best if not the best charity event they have ever attended! The importance of the cause clearly resonated with our underwriters, sponsors, and attendees as we were able not only to reach but to exceed our fundraising goal.”
Founder of the Taylor Hooton Foundation, Don Hooton, Sr. stated: “I am so proud of our supporters and volunteers for making our second annual Gala such a smashing success. Funds raised will allow us to grow our important education outreach to kids across the US. This will help us reach thousands more people raising awareness about the dangers of Appearance and Performance Enhancing Drugs.”
